YEAR 2017 SCIENCE WEEK
A Virtual Visit is a live, guided and interactive visit to a real experiment site led by scientists and engineers working on the experiment. It shows students various aspects of an experiment including its design, engineering and scope of research. Students also have the opportunity to interact with these scientists and ask questions, allowing them the unique experience of visiting an experiment site from the comfort of their home or school.
The Virtual Visit can be supplemented by an exhibition which is installed at the venue a few days before the actual visit. This allows students to gain some background knowledge about the experiment in preparation for the actual interaction.

A Particle Detection workshop is a great way to introduce students to the magic of Particle Physics by building a Nobel Prize Winning experiment. In this workshop, students learn how to build a simple version of the first particle detector using household materials and ingredients. By using the method of scientific enquiry, students learn how scientists make observations, create hypotheses, solve engineering challenges and record experimental data.
We conduct dedicated workshops for students and teachers throughout the year. Participants can also volunteer to facilitate the workshop at other schools to share their knowledge.
Register NowWant to make your own Cloud Chamber at home or school? Can’t find the ingredients for the experiment? Call us and we will send you a kit along with instructions. If you are lucky, we may also be able to invite a CERN scientist for an online interaction to assess your experiment.

A masterclass is a focused group activity led by an experimental scientist at CERN. In a masterclass, students work in pairs or individually to measure, classify and analyse real experimental data from collisions in the CMS Experiment at CERN.
In this workshop, students learn how to look at data visualisations, select useful data from large datasets, make scientific judgements and compare findings with their peers.

The SCIART initiative is a multidisciplinary approach to engage young students in scientific enquiry through hands on experiments which combine science and art. This involves manuals for teachers and students which contain lessons on building and testing your own experiment along with supplemental resources.
You can also come up with your own SCIART experiment idea and build a booklet under the mentorship of a scientist at CERN. All co-created booklets will be added to the SCIART series along with the school logo and teacher/student profiles. These booklets will then be circulated to schools across the globe.

A guest lecture by a scientist is a great way to inspire students to pursue a career in the sciences and to give them a first-hand view of the world of modern scientific research. Through our global network, we frequently invite scientists from top-ranking institutions such as CERN, NASA, BARC, MIT, NUS and others. Students and teachers also have the rare opportunity to interact with the scientist and ask questions about their work and experiences.
The guest lecture can be a live interaction or a virtual engagement.
